More Evidence for Drug Testing

Today in the United States, 73% of drug users are employed, costing American businesses billions of dollars annually in lost productivity and health care costs.8

Studies reveal employees who abuse drugs have a tremendously harmful effect on the workplace. They are more likely to have extended absences from work, show up late, be involved in workplace accidents, and file workers' compensation claims.3

Substance abusers are three times more likely to use medical benefits than other employees.9

80% of drug abusers steal from their workplaces to support their drug use.10

Alcohol and drug abuse has been estimated to cost American businesses roughly 81 billion dollars in lost productivity in just one year-37 billion due to premature death and 44 billion due to illness. Of these combined costs, 86% are attributed to drinking.11

Results from a U.S. Postal Service study revealed that employees who tested positive in a pre-employment drug test are 66% more likely to be absent and 77% more likely to be discharged within three years than those who tested negative.12
